About the Gulf

a little explanation of our beautiful gulf.

The town of Portovenere together with the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, is one of the pearls of the gulf of La Spezia, also known as the gulf of poets. The small town (only 3000 souls) consists of a town center formed by the characteristic Ligurian houses that stand out and are reflected on the sea, illuminating the shore with their festive colors. On the small hill, in the westernmost part of the town, stands the beautiful church of S. Pietro (once of the goddess Venus Ericina) which sadly and solitary silently dominates the bay. Right in front of it is the beautiful and wild island of Palmaria which, together with the islands of Tino and Tinetto, forms the small archipelago (unesco heritage since 1997) of La Spezia. Of the Palmaria islands it is the largest and the only one that can be inhabited and visited. As regards the islands of Tino and Tinetto they are accesible only for the feast of the patron Saint SanVenerio, when the island is open to the public. Beaches of the area are very popular, thanks also to the crystalline water and the blue / azure sea, which, near the coasts, quickly reaches moderate depths. There are so many paradisiacal coastal stretches that surround our fantastic gulf, you just have to set sail with us to discover them all.

The territory of Lerici is located in the Riviera di Levante, on the eastern shore of the Gulf of La Spezia. It rises in the center of a small natural inlet, called Seno di Lerici and dominated by a promontory on which the imposing castle stands out. Almost in front of the main town, beyond the locality of Venere Azzurra, is the town of San Terenzo.

The municipality is part of the Montemarcello-Magra-Vara Regional Natural Park.

For those who love wilder beaches, with pebbles or rocks, they can find what they are looking for in the Montemarcello Magra Park. The coastline that surrounds the Caprione promontory up to Tellaro and Fiascherino, in the municipality of Lerici, is a succession of ravines, small inlets and beaches that can only be reached by boat or along the CAI paths. From Bocca di Magra, the first beach you meet is that of Punta Bianca. The thick layer of white limestone that characterizes it gives it its name. Punta Bianca can be reached along a path for about thirty minutes, from a detour along the road that leads to Montemarcello.

The main feature, which makes of

Punta Bianca a suggestive place, is the presence of the Bunkers built by the Germans at the time of the Second World War, overlooking the sea. Buildings that are inserted in the naturalistic context, giving it a unique charm. A dense web of hidden paths connect these forts to others scattered throughout the area.
